Brace For It

Tweet For all of you who are interested in the status of my arm surgery. After eight weeks of wearing braces on my arm, I have finally been released of all braces and am 80% of the way back to full rotation!! Needless to say typing is easier, sleeping is easier, and of course I have permission to go for runs again so am slowly ramping back up and letting my legs remember how fun running can be. Ok, so that sounds pretty boring – blah blah – getting my arm brace off is way more exciting to me and all the people who are tired of me whining about my discomfort. The cool thing is that in talking with the Doc, I found out that not only was my case presented … Read entire article »

UW Case Study

Tweet I had my checkin with the surgeon yesterday for the procedure I had done on June 9th (interposition arthoplasty w/an allographed tendon). He was sorry about the difficulties with pain management and recovery process, but was happy to prescribe whatever I needed and wanted to ensure things were healing on good timetable. The visit was interesting, this time there were a lot more medical assistants swarming around and coming in for a look. Pain Management

Tweet Having lived with my arm in pain for roughly six years and having spent a year of that time trying to get the pain to go away, I quickly realized that the medical industry is seriously lacking an ability to manage pain. It turned out that chronic moderate pain was out of scope for most practitioners and the response was mostly “live with it”. No methods for coping with the physical pain, no treatments, nothing. I dealt with it and adapted – but always yearned for the pain to go away. Finally last week I had a procedure (interposition arthoplasty w/an allographed tendon) done to get rid of the pain. I was pretty excited at the re-assurance the procedure would result in the pain levels going down and was ready to … Read entire article »

Medical Wonders

Tweet The end to an excruciating pain is in sight, the pain that wakes me up at night, convinces me to pull over on the side of the road in my car and scream, the pain that keeps me from clapping at most events (my wife does the clapping at Sounders FC matches). Its end is in sight! Tomorrow specifically – tomorrow is my day under the knife. No one is taking things out or swapping body parts, instead tomorrow I get yet another Achilles Tendon. I love the two I have, they keep me running pain free and happy as can be, I am really excited to have a third one because of how much I love the two I have. This new one will be in my left arm, … Read entire article »
