TechCafe Happy Hour @Appature

Tweet Here is an update from TechCafe… If you are counting, this is the first event of the year! We’ve been busy (as you may have noticed if you are a regular reader). We still love putting on tech events in Seattle though!! If you are itching for great events in between TechCafe events you should check out the events at Surf Incubator and Hub Seattle. We feel great that the community is growing here and are honored to be a part of it! At TechCafe we work with awesome startups and technology companies to offer brilliant technologists a few things for free. Sure you’ll be stuck in Appature‘s slick offices. Yes you will have to participate a little in the technical talk at the event or at least listen to the discussion that … Read entire article »

TechCafe Happy Hour @Appature

Tweet As you may know, I run an event here in the Seattle area named TechCafe. It is a tech oriented event and mostly involves startups big and small in the area. We have been following one startup in Seattle more than any other. We partied on their roof four years ago. We heard them speak about fostering culture as they continued to grow the next year. They seemed to practice what they were preaching as they were still happily growing when we stopped back by their offices for a TechCafe Happy Hour kegger the following year. This year, not to let good traditions die, we’re going to check in on Appature in their new swanky office space on 1st & Union. Chris Hahn (Appatures CTO) will chat a bit about how … Read entire article »

Tweet I must say that I am pretty excited to go check out the event on Friday – nearly sold out (10 spots left)… We have been planning this one for some time and can’t wait to see all the great people in the Seattle/Bellevue/Redmond tech community come out for Happy Hour. Last year was an awesome year for TechCafe events – so awesome we took a few months off from getting geeky with the best startups and technologists in the area – rest assured though we are back and planning a few awesome events. If you are interested in sponsoring or hosting one – let us know! First up is one of our personal favorites. Blue Box Group! We have been watching this team grow for a while now and it has … Read entire article »

TechCafe Presents

Tweet TechCafe Presents – August 19th 4:30-6pm 1191 2nd Ave. Seattle, WA 98101 Register Back already!! TechCafe is putting on our second demo event!! Everyone really enjoyed seeing a few young startups last time, the startups really enjoyed the opportunity to pitch, and of course we loved putting the two groups together!! So please join us for our (I don’t want to jinx it) Quarterly TechCafe Presents… It is a demo event where we have carefully selected two startups from the community that are early enough in their lifecycle that paying to pitch or demo is outrageous – we are talking ramen eating, consulting on the side, (maybe some friends and family money), but really anything to make their passion happen startups!! Like all of the TechCafe events of the past – this is a sponsored event, thanks to our friends at Fenwick … Read entire article »

Seattle Lunch 2.0 Alumns on SSI

Tweet I was looking at Seattle 2.0′s Startup Index today and started reminiscing over all of the wonderful startups that are on the list (and the large number of tech companies not on the list) that have hosted, spoke at, or been involved with a Seattle Lunch 2.0 event. Of course it’s great to see four of the top five as Alumns of Seattle Lunch 2.0 – I’d prefer to see everyone on the list with a chance to get involved with a Seattle Lunch 2.0 (presenting, hosting, sponsoring, demo’ing, just being a part of the community). I’m working hard on additional sources of funding (just partnered with Fenwick & West LLP to host/sponsor a series of events for those startups in the category of bootstrapping), I’m also talking to a few other … Read entire article »

Experiences Attending and Hosting Seattle Lunch 2.0

Tweet In response to a discussion about events and what value they have for people, I wanted to post my thoughts on the experience of attending and hosting a Seattle Lunch 2.0 event…. I can’t speak for the “Think Tanks” or WTIA events, but the Seattle Lunch 2.0 events are Mingling events and they contain great startup-relevant information. Over the few years that I have been leading/attending these Mingling events I have participated in numerous group discussions about how companies grew their startups. When I say discussion, I mean an active audience participation in discussions about what is most interesting to the group at large. The CEO/Founder contributions to the conversations have ranged from “started in college”, to “spun out of Microsoft or other BigCo”, to “had a bright idea coding one day”, to… … Read entire article »

The Value of Networking

Tweet Networking is one of the most valuable skills an individual needs to have when navigating society. Without establishing a good network individuals navigate the world with only the opportunities and knowledge that they come across directly. It is true, the opportunities and knowledge that an individual comes across in life are usually good enough. Yet, the potential opportunities and knowledge that are available to that same individual through a good network are nearly always far greater. Individuals can find success all on their own. However, with the power of a solid network more opportunities and knowledge become available to an individual that can be turned into successful situations. Those situations can be valuable in a number of ways from family reasons to political reasons to business reasons. My favorite example of … Read entire article »

Reviewed some evening networking events last week

Tweet So I went to nPost’s event on Tuesday… and then slogged myself to the WTIA event on Thursday… that is a lot of networking in such a short week!! Overall I was impressed though… Having been a bit of a hermit and only coming out to the famed Seattle Lunch 2.0 events in the past, I wasn’t sure what to expect of some of these events that took place after hours (note: all seattle lunch 2.0 events take place between 7am and 6pm – which is approximately when my children’s daycare center is open). The nPost event was great, I met so many interesting people, got to finally meet some of my twitter friends in person, and found a few more potential Seattle Lunch 2.0 sponsors & hosts!! The WTIA event…. … Read entire article »
