Exchange 2007 Migration with Cisco Unity 5.x – Part 1

Tweet One of my customer’s has been using Cisco’s Unity product for some time now (now that we are closer to having Exchange 2007 running there, we are evaluating Exchange 2007′s UM capabilities along with OCS 2007 and finding it may be more cost effective to move off of Cisco in the long term). More about the strategies of the technology later… for now, I’ll talk more about the Cisco Unity modifications required to keep UM working while Exchange is migrated from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007…. Before we go to far, I want to point out that the configuration in question here is a single Forest, Single Domain, all of the Exchange servers are in this domain, two sites (one unity installation per site), and Unity is configured in failover mode. The first … Read entire article »

SCR Failover Using /RecoverCMS Fails with RU3 Installed

Tweet Recently I was at a customer site who is using CCR & SCR for the replication strategy. The configuration has been going great and we have all the users routed through the Client Access Servers for OWA & Activesync. With all this success, we were anxious to get started on our SCR testing. The client was a little worried about how SCR failovers would happen and of course nervous about losing data. Not to worry, we’ve done these failovers with a reasonable amount of success for a few years now…. Well halfway through the failover, we have the databases restored and try to take over the cluster…. and Boom!!! A Big annoying error pops up stating: You must perform disaster recovery using the same version of Exchange as the last installed version. The … Read entire article »

Exchange 2007 CAS Installation Error

Tweet Recently I was at a customer site helping to get Exchange 2007 up in their lab environment. This customer in particular has a lot of projects going and just didn’t have time to implement all of them on their own (I’m seeing a lot more of this these days). The customer had gone through and done some Exchange 2007 work previously in the lab, but due to the incoming projects didn’t have time to finish it up. Due to this they ripped out what they had and left a somewhat semi-installed Exchange 2007 server in their Exchange 2003 org. I know this scenario is fairly common. But the interesting thing I ran into was after I manually removed the remnants of the Exchange 2007 server they had left in the domain. … Read entire article »

UCDoers Meeting Recap

Tweet The last UCDoers meeting was great!! Per Farney and Greg Taylor from the Microsoft Certified Master’s program came and gave us the run down on the program. They left us with a deck, but sadly no recording of what they said, I guess you have to attend to get the details. The meeting didn’t stop there though…. SQLSoft stopped by and gave the attendees $250 off any MS class. This was great of them to do. We have asked them to come back and keep giving attendees FREE stuff!! They agreed of course We had a discussion about the difficulties of prioritizing implementations of new products as an IT organization. With MS releasing all of these things at once to save Marketing dollars, how are IT departments to properly prioritize which … Read entire article »

Exchange 2007 Book Give Away!!

Tweet Yeah!! More giveaways!! I have a couple copies of my friend Joel Stidley’s Windows PowerShell for Exchange Server 2007 SP1 that arrived today…. I did the technical edit on the book and had a lot of fun using my powershell skills for some good. I haven’t seen too many reviews, but Shay Israel has a small review on $cript Fanatic. Of course I don’t need all the books and know there are still plenty of Exchange readers on my blog. So I’ve got two of these books to giveaway!! Since I am lacking creativity tonight, how about I am going to take suggestions on how to give these things away. I previously partnered with Manning press to do the powershell script contest which was fun, but what else would be interesting for a giveaway? … Read entire article »
