Twitter Updates 10/13/2012

Tweet Hmm, timely.is is closing down and now I need to move to another service to post my twitter updates. At the moment it looks like Buffer.ly is the closest alternative, but of course it isn’t free – which sucks. Anyone use anything else to schedule interesting twitter updates? I know I read most of this stuff in the middle of the night or at 4am so post most of these through out the day using a service. Well most of them, I still tweet from my phone throughout the day… Of interest this week includes: 2nd best city in the US? – Any guesses on #1 & #2 before you follow the link? – http://awe.sm/d5sVB Good Macro analysis of $AMZN in a $MSFT & $GOOG world… now we just need $AMZN maps!! http://awe.sm/g63p9 … Read entire article »

TechCafe: Free Lunches and Startup Launches

Tweet The growing Seattle technology community is an amazing place. There are giants like Amazon and Microsoft, there are incubators like Techstars, Eastside Incubator, and Founders Institute, there a number of Angels, a number of Venture Capitalists, a wealth of students from some great institutions, and of course no shortage of startups with raw willpower to succeed. The glue holding all of these together are the events where connections of all shapes and sizes happen. From the occasional networking meetup at a bar with no agenda, to Poker 2.0, to the more formal events put on by WTIA, NWEN, or MIT Forum. Without a healthy dose of events for developers to meet business counterparts, founders to find a designer looking for work, or a room full of people to launch or … Read entire article »

TechCafe Happy Hour @CoCollage

Tweet The co-working spaces just keep popping up! TechCafe was just over at StartPad last week on the continuing tour of co-working spaces that has included Office Nomads (Capitol Hill), Indie Ballard (Ballard), StartPad (Pioneer Square), TechStars (South Lake Union), and now The Launchspace (U-District). We’re hoping to make it over to TechDwellers in the near future as well. While we are over at LaunchSpace, we will have a great demo from CoCollage - A Seattle based startup focused on connecting people within spaces such as bars, coffee shops, etc. CoCollage has a growing install base and a growing product that is being built from Launchspace. Happy Hour in the U-District will definitely be unique. If you are a student and haven’t been able to make it to a TechCafe event in the past – … Read entire article »

The Definition of Running (Part 3 of 3)

Tweet Part1, Part2, and all the others are on my Run Your Age blog – definitely should be read in order According to research by a group of researchers at Harvard, a natural running gait consists of one that includes a forefoot or mid foot landing. This landing style is one that naturally absorbs the impact resulting in a body that does not have to deal with the impact. Examining the modern running shoes themselves, it is easy to see a large cushioned heel which promotes an aft foot landing. This aft foot landing allows the shoe to do several things, including align the foot throughout the stroke, reduce or remove pronation, and provide a level of comfort on the ground. These changes to the landing are counter-intuitive to how … Read entire article »

The Definition of Running (Part 1 of 3)

Tweet This series is a cross post from one of my other blogs that is all about running (www.runyourage.com). I am working on getting to running as many miles as I am old – which may mean that I never get there as I get older every year. I think I’ll be able to add miles faster than years though and eventually get there. Anyway – I particularly enjoyed researching and writing this stuff and wanted to offer it to everyone (even if you aren’t a runner)… enjoy (link to original) Running, or some form of running has been around since the dawn of man. It has been the basis of our transportation, the measure that other modes of transportation were initially compared against, and it continues today to be a method … Read entire article »

TechCafe Happy Hour @Pinchzoom

Tweet TechCafe Happy Hour @pinchzoom – July 9th 4:30-6pm 707 N 35th Seattle, WA 98103 Register This will be our first event in Fremont!! We’ve done all over downtown (including pioneer square, belltown, sodo, capitol hill), Ballard, Redmond, Kirkland, Bellevue – but this will be the first ever in Fremont… Pinchzoom builds mobile applications for themselves and others – in other words they have an interesting business model that includes services for other entities and building products that they sell themselves. Certainly an interesting model to look at… and looking at pinchzoom’s new digs it’s easy to see that they are doing executing very well!! … Read entire article »
