Most Influential Failure
Well we’re back from Greece, it was amazing to see the ancient and future history at the same time. I also see that GeekWire has announced the continuation of the Seattle 2.0 awards (I won an award at the first Seattle 2.0 ceremony). I helped in judging this round and am excited to attend the event next week. I hope that you can attend as well. Reflecting on the categories after spending all this time in Greece, I am a bit sad that we don’t have a category to honor the lessons learned from failing to build a successful startup. Failure is something Greece has never looked at critically in their culture and increasingly it is something that we in the U.S. are failing to appreciate. Failing at things happens! As a father I can … Read entire article »

TechCafe Happy Hour @BlueBoxGroup
I must say that I am pretty excited to go check out the event on Friday – nearly sold out (10 spots left)… We have been planning this one for some time and can’t wait to see all the great people in the Seattle/Bellevue/Redmond tech community come out for Happy Hour. Last year was an awesome year for TechCafe events – so awesome we took a few months off from getting geeky with the best startups and technologists in the area – rest assured though we are back and planning a few awesome events. If you are interested in sponsoring or hosting one – let us know! First up is one of our personal favorites. Blue Box Group! We have been watching this team grow for a while now and it has … Read entire article »

TechCafe Happy Hour @CoCollage
The co-working spaces just keep popping up! TechCafe was just over at StartPad last week on the continuing tour of co-working spaces that has included Office Nomads (Capitol Hill), Indie Ballard (Ballard), StartPad (Pioneer Square), TechStars (South Lake Union), and now The Launchspace (U-District). We’re hoping to make it over to TechDwellers in the near future as well. While we are over at LaunchSpace, we will have a great demo from CoCollage - A Seattle based startup focused on connecting people within spaces such as bars, coffee shops, etc. CoCollage has a growing install base and a growing product that is being built from Launchspace. Happy Hour in the U-District will definitely be unique. If you are a student and haven’t been able to make it to a TechCafe event in the past – … Read entire article »

Zero Risk – 32000% Potential Return
I get asked all the time if my full time job is TechCafe. I always blush at being asked about my secret desire that a sponsor like MSFT or GOOG would come along and pick up my financial requirements so I could focus on building great events here in the Seattle area for the startup and tech community – the truth is, that will never happen (I have a full time job). I don’t know anyone that makes a living solely from running events of any kind (at least a living that would support the habits and lifestyle that my family is used to). SFBeta, Seattle 2.0, Hops and Chops, etc – none of these events are supporting a family of four. So… … Read entire article »

TechCafe Presents
TechCafe Presents – August 19th 4:30-6pm 1191 2nd Ave. Seattle, WA 98101 Register Back already!! TechCafe is putting on our second demo event!! Everyone really enjoyed seeing a few young startups last time, the startups really enjoyed the opportunity to pitch, and of course we loved putting the two groups together!! So please join us for our (I don’t want to jinx it) Quarterly TechCafe Presents… It is a demo event where we have carefully selected two startups from the community that are early enough in their lifecycle that paying to pitch or demo is outrageous – we are talking ramen eating, consulting on the side, (maybe some friends and family money), but really anything to make their passion happen startups!! Like all of the TechCafe events of the past – this is a sponsored event, thanks to our friends at Fenwick … Read entire article »

TechCafe Happy Hour @Pinchzoom
TechCafe Happy Hour @pinchzoom – July 9th 4:30-6pm 707 N 35th Seattle, WA 98103 Register This will be our first event in Fremont!! We’ve done all over downtown (including pioneer square, belltown, sodo, capitol hill), Ballard, Redmond, Kirkland, Bellevue – but this will be the first ever in Fremont… Pinchzoom builds mobile applications for themselves and others – in other words they have an interesting business model that includes services for other entities and building products that they sell themselves. Certainly an interesting model to look at… and looking at pinchzoom’s new digs it’s easy to see that they are doing executing very well!! … Read entire article »

Jeremiah has worked with Oracle technology since 1994. His main claim to fame is having been Amazon.com’s first database administrator, … Read entire article »
